Nothing... |
|
It is
our belief that knowledge is power. And it is this power that
you will need to beat a dreadful disease like cancer. We
discovered what little we knew about breast cancer was simply
not enough. Our sometimes frantic search for information in
books and on the web took some strange and frightful turns, as
we sorted through truths and half truths. We have compiled a
list of the best books and best sites that we found to be the
most helpful . “A candle loses nothing when used to light
another one”1 - may our journey light your way.

Just
Get Me Through This - The Practical Guide to Breast Cancer by
Deborah Cohen
This
was the first book I really connected to and was like a bible to
me during the scariest times. It was also a great comfort to
those who love me especially the sections for family and
caretakers. I still find myself referring back to it through
the many stages of breast cancer and have recommended this to
many friends - what ever age they may be all have said that they
found it beneficial.

Dr
Susan Love’s Breast Book (4th Edition) by Dr Susan M. Love and
Karen Lindsey
To
be totally honest I did not hear about this book until after my
first mastectomy and
chemotherapy was completed but I do wish I had known of it
earlier. It is written by a well
respected female doctor with a specialty in breast health and
filled with honest practical advice.

Life
in the Balance: My Journey with Breast Cancer by Dr. Marla
Shapiro
This
book was released after the initial shock and fear had passed
but my Mom recommended it to me. She had actually read it twice
wanting to really understand all I was going through. Dr Marla
touched on the fear, pain and emotions of the complete journey
from diagnosis to finishing reconstruction, with the brutal
honesty that only someone who has gone through this really can.

Susan G Komen for
the Cure
If
you only visit one web site about breast cancer the Susan G.
Komen site is the one to choose. In the hours and days following
my diagnosis I searched the web in total frustration until I
remembered the Komen name. Factual and helpful information
paired with interactive videos have me singing the praises of
www.komen.org and
recommending this site to all the Pink Warriors I know and to
those who love them.

Amazon.com
Amazon is not a breast cancer site but rather a wonderful way to
research all the books and resources that are available for
you. We are not affiliated with Amazon or any of the other books
or sites listed. However their services were invaluable to us
and so we continue to research and purchase our books, cd’s or
dvd’s at www.amazon.ca or
www.amazon.com.
