The Pink Warrior Story

My name is Kelly Gatzke and I am the founder and owner of Pink Warrior Ltd.com.  I am the husband a one year breast cancer survivor and this is my story.

My wife and I are still considered a young couple but we have been through many challenges in the ten years that we have been married. In the third year of our marriage my wife was diagnosed with a brain aneurism and we have worked together through the recovery and therapy years following that surgery. Just when we felt that life may be returning to normal and give us a chance to have children - my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer.

It was heartbreaking to see the look on my wife’s face that somehow she felt she had let me down by not being able to have children now. I tried to put her fears to rest as I stood by her and did everything that I could think of; I cooled her brow when she vomited for hours on end after her first chemotherapy, I rubbed her arms and legs when the pain was almost unbearable for her and I have prayed with her on the many steps along the way of surgeries, treatments, tests, another cancer scare and then more surgeries.

Then while looking for a way to supplement the pain killers and relieve the pain and other effects from chemotherapy, my wife’s oncologist suggested that she find a hobby that she would enjoy and that would exercise her hands. Her very first bracelets were made as thank you gifts for family and friends who supported us through her battle with breast cancer. My wife was inspired by the incredible fellow Pink Warriors that she had met along the way and I was inspired by her so I vowed to do all that I could to help raise funds to find a cure - so the idea of Pink Warrior was born.

The focus of Pink Warrior is to provide a venue where you can make a difference simply by redirecting some of your shopping dollars. We use the beautiful Swarovski Crystals plus a wide variety of colours and mixture of beads, as there are many types of women and men who are affected by this disease. We have expanded our business to include many items of Breast Cancer Awareness items and Inspirational prints.

People have commented that my dreams and goals surprise them and question why I do this. How do you explain the kind of love that I have for my wife and my fear of losing her? God forbid if she should need further cancer treatment – I want to know that I have done all that I can do so that there is cure waiting for her and everyone else.  

Every year our goals continue to grow – what we will raise and what we will achieve in this battle. As we meet more survivors and hear their stories we are even more eager to make a bigger difference.

I believe that our dreams and our love really can move mountains and give hope, courage and strength to others. As people support us and join the movement we know that Together We Will Fund a Cure.
